A spaghetti dish-with Spaghetti Squash!!

Spaghetti
So what's so great about me putting up a photo of a plate of spaghetti??
Look more closely-that's not your regular spaghetti-it's a SQUASH!!!!! A couple of weeks back when I was chatting with my brother, he had mentioned that he had recently tried spaghetti squash and that got me intrigued and I quickly put it on my shopping list. I found it quite easily, but I wasn't too sure if it was the right one as it looked no different from the rest of the squash where it was kept( I guess I was expecting something which at least vaguely resembled spaghetti),but the label on it very clearly said "Spaghetti Squash" and also had cooking instructions (thank you very much).

The instructions said that I could either bake it or microwave it-I microwaved it on high for about 7-8 minutes(after piercing the rind) and let it cool for sometime before cutting it open-and voila, there was the spaghetti just staring at me-beautiful!!!
I hadn't even thought of what to do with it. I could make spaghetti(after all it was named after it) or I could use it as noodles. Since this was the first time,I settled with a simple spaghetti dish with sauteed vegetables. The result was a nice crunchy dish( and it was all vegetables!!) which was very filling. Next time I'm going to be a little more adventurous and try out something new-maybe a salad, or maybe a stir-fry dish,or use it as noodles. Any suggestions??

Question: How would you like to try out Spaghetti squash?

Spaghetti squash?! now that's something new to me. Very clever, Sweta. I did think for a moment that it spaghetti infused with squash. Nicely done.

ooohh I love spaghetti squash....you could use it in a casserole - sort of like making a spaghetti lasagna...plain with garlic and olive oil is my favorite - oh and butter too!

I cooked some spaghetti today too, for my husband...he doesn't like cheese on the top, (strange, huh?) so instead I squeezed some dried garlic on the top....
Now I have another spaghetti choice: with squash! Have you tried spaghetti bolognaise with apple compote? haha...my husband loves to eat savory and sweet together.
I like your plate...very summer.

My mom used to make spaghetti squash a lot, and I loved it. I've never tried making it myself, but I'd probably do something similar to what you did, with sauteed veggies. I'd add garlic, salt (just a dash), and pepper too...of course!

Wow, cool! I've seen spaghetti squash around, but have not tried it yet. I think I would still prefer the real pasta, but this is sure one interesting dish fit to impress!

That looks great! I have been meaning to try this for years. Thanks for reminding me =)
I'd be curious to do a sweet-inspired dish with it. In Saudi they do a sort of "dessert" vermicelli that would be interesting with the squash. It uses either date syrup or honey, and cardomom, nutmeg, cinnamon.

I've only made spaghetti squash a few times, but I do enjoy it. I haven't gotten too fancy just substituted it for pasta and used marinara. It is a great way to lighten up a dish. Yours looks great!

I've only had spaghetti squash once, so I think I need to try it again.

I like spaghetti squash with a little olive oil or butter and some herbs, salt and pepper. I didn't like it so much as spaghetti, but more as squash.

Sweta (My Indian Dietitian) said...

Lori:I especially enjoyed the crunchiness it had!
Lisa:I'll be waiting to see what you make out of it :)
Diana:it did taste more like a salad rather than pasta ;)

I have never used spaghetti squash- you make it look so good. will bookmark this one too try in the fall. Have had my fill of squash for a while.

I love spaghetti squash, but its so hard to cut! My mom's greengrocer actually threw it on the ground and it broke in half. Neat! I find it delicious anywhere you would serve pasta. Spaghetti squash carbornara?

I love it with Avocado Pesto or topped with a spicy Thai Green Curry! YUM! Have you ever heard of a Spiralizer. Check it out on Amazon.com. You can use it to make "noodles" out of zucchini and squash. It is awesome!
