Insulin in a bubblegum-definitely a boon for Diabetics!

I've never been a big fan of bubblegum, but the idea of chewing a bubblegum instead of an insulin jab is most welcome.
A research team led by Tejal Desai at the University of California is busy working on a way to deliver insulin orally rather than through injections. Insulin being a hormone, cannot be administered orally as it get's destroyed by the acids in the stomach.
The researchers are working on a process of shielding the insulin in some kind of a protective microscopic coating so that it can be delivered into the bloodstream.
Though the research is still in it's infancy and needs to be tested on humans-it'll be a big boon to the millions of diabetics who have to endure the injections everyday.
Way to go professor and here's hoping that the "bubble(gum) doesn't break"!!

Hope this kind of bubblegum will pass the test, I have seen people taking insulin injections, poor them! This bubblegum will ease the pain for them!

Oh how neat!! Science is so incredible these days, right? I think it would be fantastic if they could come up with a way to give insulin without an injection. Especially for kids, who aren't as willing to do the shots.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. Your story sounds so similar to many stories of my own. I often have people say to me "well, do YOU eat healthy, or do YOU workout?". I especially get comments about my weight, since I'm so small (but within my IBW). People will say things like, "do YOU even EAT?!" That's when I get really offended.

Anyway, hope you're having a great holiday!

I hope that this method is found effective. It certainly would make life for the diabetics easier!

That is so crazy. I haven't heard that yet. I think I am far too removed from civilization. I'll cross my fingers on this one. WOuld be great for kids.

Hi, just walked across your blod and found it really informative and useful. Definitely everyone needs to have knowledge on nutrition perspective to stay healthy. And im sure you are helping many.
I gained about 40 Lbs during my (first) pregnancy, listening to some mindless people's advises(like eat for 2).Therefore I would appreciate if u can post an article on how a pregnant woman can maintain her health without gaining too much of weight. Which would benefit many of us.It will be a lesson to many like me who are still struggling to loose the weight. Thanks in advance.
Keep up your work and keep them coming.

You haven't posted in so long! No need to apologize for not stopping by my blog for a while, but I'm glad you did stop by :) And I'm very excited that you got a Trader Joes! Believe it or not, one of them close to me closed lately. I thought it was CRAZY because it was always super packed. I need to look more into the situation because I'm sure they didn't close due to low business, it's weird though.
Happy New Year to you! (haha, a little late)

One more thing, I did note in my post that vegetarians MIGHT need a supplement, not always :)

Hey if it has come these days, then there is left no problem for the diabetic patients. It is just the bubblegum that they have to chew to maintain their insulin level.
